Parish Events Group
The Parish Events Group (PEG) evolved from the Coronation celebrations. It includes four Parish Councillors and several members of the community. Its aim is to organise different public events and activities in various venues for the community of Chilcompton. Moving forward we would like to explore what events members of the local community would like to have, taking into account different age groups, interest and abilities. We encourage all village residents to become involved in this group in any way they can. The group is fully supported by the Parish Council.

SpeedWatch
Community SpeedWatch (CSW) can be set up in any village, small town, or urban area, governed by either a 20, 30 or 40 miles per hour speed limit. The scheme in Chilcompton was set up in 2012 and has been successfully running since.
A team of local residents prepared to commit to volunteering a small amount of time each week are trained and issued with speed detection equipment to monitor speeds as well as hi viz jackets.
Vehicles observed speeding over the acceptable limit are sent a warning letter along with additional advice from the police to help them change their driving behaviour. Further action is taken by the police against persistent and high end speed offenders. The police also target individual locations that are consistently flagged up as having persistent speeding vehicles.
From the CSW Operation, covering Avon and Somerset, approximately 40k drivers a year are written to reminding them about the impact their excess speed has on communities.
Committed, flexible and sociable volunteers are welcome.

Chilcompton Gardening Club was established in 1998 and currently has a membership of around 80. Meetings are held in the Village Hall on the 4th Tuesday of every month except August and December, commencing at 7.30pm.
Speakers on a wide range of gardening and garden related subjects are arranged for each meeting, with the exception of the January meeting when the Annual General Meeting is followed by cheese and wine. In addition, the Club organises two day or part day/evening trips each year, and an annual Plant Sale is held in May, plus growing competitions for the best pot of bulbs and the best plant grown from a plug plant.
The Club is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society, the Federation of Somerset Gardening Clubs and The Gardens Group Gold Club. The latter provide the Club with discount vouchers, as well as the plug plants and bulbs for the competitions. There are also discounts available at other local nurseries and businesses.

Litter Picking
The Chilcompton litter picking group gather bi annually (October & March) to collect discarded litter from around the village. We have a current list of regular collectors who have specific areas that they collect and often ensure their area is complete over a 2 week period, we still have a number of areas that do not have regular collectors so we are always looking to expand our number of volunteers. We are keen to encourage and involve the future generation so that we can sustain a clean village for years to come.
We are helped and supported by Mendip and District Round Table who supply black bin bags and lend out pickers, all collected and returned to the village hall.
Our facebook page is Chilcompton litter pick, so please go over and like our page. If anyone is interested in volunteering please make contact via the facebook page, email mat.escott@googlemail.com, call or text 07885472332
NOTE: Subject to lockdown restrictions we would still like to litter pick in March 2021, we will take all precautions necessary to ensure a safe environment.Litter Picking
