An all-Somerset list of historical assets is maintained by Southwest Heritage Trust and is available by clicking here then entering Chilcompton in the search box near the top-left. Individual records can be perused there and in some cases photographs are included. Map references may also included and as part of a long term project what.three.words addresses will also be added. As a further convenience Chilcompton Parish Council have created a PDF of basic details from the database and this is available by clicking here. This version was published on 17 June 2025 and will be updated periodically.
The following list of assets was provided by a parishioner. Inclusion of an item on this list does not necessarily imply ownership by or responsibility of the Parish Council or any other entity. It’s for reference purposes only. A long term exercise is under way to reconcile this list with the Southwest Heritage Trust list as it is in everyone’s interest to have as few lists and thus potential duplication as possible. The Southwest Heritage list is considered by the Parish Council to be the master list however and when reconciliation is performed, it may be that some items on the parishioner’s list will not be permissible for inclusion on the master list. An example of this is the “Slipped Strata” item – Southwest Heritage do not accept geological features for inclusion on their list so it will be included on a supplementary list which will be held here.
Suggestions for additional items to be considered for inclusion by the Parish Council may be sent to the Parish Clerk. Any items that are identified and agreed by the Parish Council for inclusion that cannot be added to the master list will be added to the supplementary list. It is hoped that this supplementary list will include pertinent details that are often currently missing, such as map references and what.three.words addresses and possibly also photographs. Additions to the master list are at the sole discretion of the Southwest Heritage Trust.
All updates to any part of this project are subject to volunteer availability.
