Household Bin and Recycling Collections starting earlier

Somerset Council have advised that the household bin and recycling collections will now be starting from 6am, so bins need to be put out before then.

 

 

 

Cllr Richard Morgan Obituary

The Parish Council reports the very sad news of the recent passing of Cllr Richard Morgan.

The order becomes effective on 29th July 2026 and will remain in force for eighteen months.

The works are expected to commence on 5th August 2026 and last for 13 days (07:30-18:00) to enable Heidelberg to carry out prep and resurfacing works on behalf of Somerset Council. 

The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is permitted on this occasion.

CLERK TO PARISH COUNCIL

Chilcompton Parish Council seeks a Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.  This post is part-time involving 6-10 hours each week on average.

The successful candidate is not required to have local government experience but will be expected to handle the formal minutes, agendas, and correspondence of the Council.

Training will be available.  Limited simple book-keeping duties will also arise, along with website updates.

The salary will be per the National recommended salary scale starting at £17.79 (SCP 24) per hour. Or by negotiation depending on experience.

Chilcompton Get Together – wonderful day on the Old Rec!

Great day at the Chilcompton Get Together.
The weather was perfect! Well done to all the competition winners and to Cllr Sam Phripp for handing out the prizes.
Big shout out to all the performers: Mick Timpson beanddo Yoga, Helena and Seraphina for their singing and Exit Stage Left for the drama performance.
Also thanks to Root Connections for the cafe, and Mr Nick for the Ice cream, Chilcompton Youthclub for the Basket Ball and crafts, and Rob Allen cabs for the shuttle service.
Huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped plan the event, and then on the day manning activities and kids crafts, marshalling on the street and helping set up and clearing away.
Finally we are very grateful to our sponsors Somerset Council Health and Wellbeing Fund, the Sperring Charity and Matheson Charles which enabled all the activities and shuttle to be free.

A new walk trail for Chilcompton

A new walking trial guide has been produced for Chilcompton. It highlights some of the lovely heritage buildings and landmarks in our village.

The guide has been produced by Sue Manley with assistance from The Chilcompton Society. Illustrations are by Matt Marshall, and the production has been kindly supported by The Sperring Charity.

The guide is available here as a free download to print at home, or a printed version will be for sale at village events for £1. Proceeds will go to support village events.
