The Parish Council has received the offer of a donation of a bench in memory of a village resident. If you have any suggestions as to where would be a suitable location for this bench please contact the Parish Clerk. It should be noted that some locations are unsuitable as they may be on private land.

Dear Local businesses, organisations and voluntary groups, The Chilcompton parish council are arranging a reopening event for local organisations in response to the COVID – 19 pandemic. So, as the nation looks forward to life beginning to return to normal, with people making plans for domestic holidays and days out with friends, Somerset county council announced a comprehensive package of support to help kickstart local economies and businesses and give people reassurance they can shop and socialise safely. In response to this as a parish council we have decided upon hosting an event at the Chilcompton village hall on Saturday 26th March 2022. We are inviting you to attend this event between 12.30 to 18.00. The public will be invited between 14.00 until 17.30. We have envisioned the event as an opportunity to promote and publicise your group/ organisation/ service along with forms of entertainment being provided by the parish council to bring in a variety of demographics. This event will rely on the support of local organisations joining us to help promote themselves to the local residents. If you are interested in joining us, please contact the Chilcompton parish council to reserve your place.

Chilcompton will commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II with a public celebration in the Sports Field, Bennell on Friday 3 June. If you wish to help by volunteering or in any other way please contact the Parish Clerk. Entertainment will include Helena and also the Honky Tonks. There will be a cash bar and also a barbecue available.
… and would you like to help try to improve them? There’s a nationwide project under way to try to improve local bus services. Funds are becoming available and Somerset has applied for a substantial grant. It is hoped that some if it may trickle down to help local services. To assist with that a local volunteer is needed. The role calls for an interest in local public transport and a willingness to gather details of local needs by talking to people and issuing reports of these needs and problems back to central coordinators. The role is voluntary and is thus unremunerated. The person taking it on would not be a Parish Councillor and no other related duties are foreseen. If you think that this may be something that appeals to you please contact the Parish Clerk for further details.

Take Art was a very successful venture that brought all sorts of live entertainment to rural communities. Events in Chilcompton were always well supported and we are pleased to hear that it is starting up again. A local coordinator will however be required and this will involve some work. Attached are some details – if you feel that this could be something for you, please contact them directly. Please also let the Parish Clerk know that you are interested in the role.

Take Art Invitation
Take Art are now working in Mendip to recruit a small number of volunteers from rural communities to become new arts promoting groups in their own localities. An exciting range of live, affordable and high quality performances will be on offer that could take place in village halls, schools, recreation grounds or any other appropriate local community space.
Theatre, dance, spoken word and music performances will all be offered through a carefully selected Menu. Volunteers use this Menu to choose the most appropriate show for their own locale and then work with Take Art to make the event happen. This includes not only choosing the show in the first place, but promoting and publicising it locally, selling tickets and hosting the performers on the day/night. Take Art will be responsible for creating the Menu, liaising with the performers, forming the legal contracts, providing posters, fliers and tickets and generally offering advice and support throughout. Take Art will pay the full company’s fee and will charge the volunteer promoting group a proportion of the true cost.
Cllr Liz Leyshon said “I can highly recommend village performances as a brilliant way to bring people together, and that’s never been needed more than after so many months in lockdown. Take Art’s team have decades of experience so you will benefit from their knowledge and contacts, helping you to find the joy in being a village promoter. “
Take Art are inviting you to a meeting where you can learn more about how to get involved on Wednesday 22nd September from 6:30pm at Croscombe Village Hall Fayre Way, Croscombe, Wells BA5 3RJ
This will be an informal gathering where you can meet and chat with other promoters, many of whom have been part of the Take Art network for more than 25 years.
We will be sending more details about the work of Take Art in Mendip and how you can join in, in the coming weeks .

The independent Boundary Commission for England (BCE) are drawing the map of constituencies in England and needs your help to shape their final recommendations, ensuring they take into consideration local knowledge and views.
From 8 June until 2 August 2021 the BCE are holding an eight week consultation, allowing you to share your knowledge about your local area. The Commission considers every piece of feedback that it receives, whether that is about where the constituency boundaries should be or the name of the constituency.
It is easy to get involved – To view interactive maps showing the proposed changes, and to submit your feedback, go to www.bcereviews.org.uk.
Will my MP or constituency be affected by the boundary changes?
The number of constituencies in England will increase from 533 to 543, and each will need to have a similar number of electors. To implement these requirements, there will be wide scale change to the majority of constituencies. View the proposals online at www.bcereviews.org.uk for your particular area to find out more.
Will the name of my constituency change following the review?
Possibly. As well as looking at where the boundaries of constituencies should be, the BCE will recommend a specific name for each constituency. Generally, the more a constituency has changed, the more likely it is that the BCE will recommend a change of name. The Commission welcomes views on the naming of proposed constituencies during the consultation.
Will the changes affect my local council services, bin collections or schools, for example?
No. The boundary changes only relate to Parliamentary constituencies (the area an MP is elected to represent in Parliament). Services and council tax in your local area are set by your local authority and this review does not change local authority boundaries.
