Update on Broadway Road Closure

After intense lobbying by our Somerset Councillors Edric Hobbs and Tony Robbins, from your Parish Council, and from individual residents and businesses, there has been a change of plan. The B3139 will be opened under traffic light control this evening (Friday 10th November) and will remain open until the week commencing Monday 20th, when work will recommence. At present there is no plan to keep the road open under traffic light control during the working day.
We have been assured that the pavement, once completed, will run continuously from the corner of Parsonage Lane to the Mulberry entrance, and that there will not be a gap where the hedge currently exists.
Your Parish Council would like to make it clear that had we realised the scale of distress, upheaval, and loss to local businesses that this project would entail, we may well have not agreed to it in the first place, but we cannot rewrite history.
We would ask that complaints are addressed directly to Somerset Highways on their website at https://www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/report-a-problem-on-the-road/

Plant a tree in 23

As part of an initiative to encourage residents to plant more trees the Parish Council will be purchasing a batch of small baby trees (whips) that they will be giving away to villagers to grow in their gardens.

The saplings, bought from the Woodland Trust, will include hawthorn, rowan, blackthorn and silver birch.

Anyone who is interested in acquiring a tree for their home, in the first instance, contact the clerk on parishclerk@chilcompton.org before the end of October.
