Problems with the roads?

If you have concerns about roads locally then you need the Highways Department of Somerset Council. Roads are not the responsibility of the Parish Council. Highways can be contacted on 0300 123 2224 or www.somerset.gov.uk  However the Parish Council is always interested in residents’ concerns so we can be contacted through our website. In addition the Parish Council has a Traffic subcom that acts as a pressure group to the PC and Somerset Council. The subcom is always looking for new members.

So come along and enjoy your picnic and join in all the different fun activities that we have organised. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome and we look forward to seeing you.

Coronation Picnic

The weather is not looking good at the moment for our Coronation Picnic on the Old Rec on Saturday 6th May. Please keep a check on the Parish Council website and Facebook page on Friday 5th May in case our plans need to change.

Miners Silhouette Installed

Chilcompton has been fortune to receive a donation from the Somerset District Miners Trust of a silhouette of a working miner. It’s been installed by the coal cart at Rock Road and the two items together make an attractive commemoration of the rich Somerset mining history. The Parish Council extends the gratitude of Chilcompton residents to the Trust for this generous donation.

UK-wide test of Emergency Alert System

This test is scheduled to take place on April 23 at 15:00. Most mobile phones in the UK will make a loud noise and will display a message at this time, unless they have been set not to. More details can be found here

Coronation Events – can you help?

Chilcompton Parish Council is planning events on 6 and 8 May to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III. Details of these are in a separate post, however they will be events for the entire village and for them to be a success, we need help from as many villages residents as possible. Having a significant number of volunteers will share the load and will help ensure that everyone can enjoy the day. Specific tasks have yet to be identified but may well include things like those on the following lists. Tasks will be found for everyone, no matter their individual abilities. If you feel that you can help in any way please contact Lesley on 01761 233838 and she will add your name to the list.

Examples of typical tasks may include

  • Distributing advertising
  • Drivers to help get older or less able people to and from their homes to the venues
  • Parking marshalls
  • Setting up and putting away things like chairs and tables
  • Serving refreshments
  • Helping to set up trader stalls and similar
  • General guides and assistants for the venues
  • Possibly a light litter pick after the event in the Old Rec
