Soldier Silhouette Missing

The metal soldier that was placed beside the road near the Sports Club is missing. It was erected just before Remembrance Sunday and has gone missing since then. We’ve checked on the ground and in the hedges etc. but there is no sign of it. See photo for identical example.  We hope very much that someone has taken it for safekeeping and will now return it. If you know where it is please contact the Parish Clerk to arrange return.

Remembrance Day 2024

Remembrance Day 2024

Once again, the village of Chilcompton will remember those members of the village who made the ultimate sacrifice in the two world wars when we hold our Remembrance Service.

This will take place at the War memorial AT 15.00 on Sunday 10th November. After the service parishioners are invited to join us at the village hall for tea and cakes.

The day before, Saturday 9th November, will see the dressing of three war graves in Chilcompton, this will start with the two at St John’s Church at 9.00 and then the remaining grave at the old church on Stockhill Road

We hope we will see many of you at these two services

Drains – Response

River Authority Strategy and Flood Plan

Please see the attached. members of the public are invited to review and respond as they wish.

Dear Town and Parish Clerks and Chairs of Parish Meetings,  I’m writing as the Chair of Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA) to let you know about the newly published SRA Draft Strategy and Flood Action Plan 2024-34.

To get people’s views about this draft strategy, we have set up a temporary website where people can answer questions, make comments, and pinpoint flood concerns on a map. It’s at srastrategy.co.uk and it’s live until 31 December 2023. To get straight to the map section of the site, go to SRA Flood Action Plan and scroll down. Please can I ask you and all your councillors to take a look and take part? Your thoughts and local knowledge will help us to draw up plans for river catchments across Somerset and reduce the risks and impacts of flooding across the county. We would also appreciate any help you can give in spreading the word about the draft strategy and this feedback exercise. I have attached a PDF of the Draft SRA Strategy and Flood Action Plan 2024-34 for anyone who would prefer to read it in that form, but please use the srastrategy.co.uk website to have your say on its contents.

 Thank you for your help.

 Yours faithfully,

Cllr Mike Stanton, Chair of Somerset Rivers Authority

Thank you to Rosemary!

This is an extract from a delightful email that we recently received. The Parish Council also thanks Rosemary for helping to  show Chilcompton in such a positive light.

“Today I have returned from Bath shopping at 3.30 and was unable to  load up my sat nav ( which had previously worked on my way there). I ended up getting very lost in Chilcompton with no alternative route and no workable sat nav. The road came to a close and no diversion signs. Cars were everywhere.

The only thing I could do when it was safe was to stop  the car and ask the first available person I met. This happened to be a lovely woman called Rosemary from your village who not only helped me but insisted on getting in my car and directing me correctly to the right road to Shepton Mallet. Without her I would have wasted so much time. If you know of a lady called Rosemary ( she had a daughter ) who would do such a thing please thank her from the bottom of my heart. I am so grateful to her. Obviously a complete shot in the dark ( I come from a village of 400 and know everyone ). Her kindness was outstanding and you must be justifiably very proud of having such a woman of this quality in your parish. She’s done chilcompton proud and I will forever have chilcompton in my mind as a place that wins my heart. Regards Sue xxxxxx”
